Why do we study the history of women and what is meant by 'gender history'? The course introduces gender as an analytical category in European history and examines conceptions regarding the place of women in society and their role in the evolution of European history.

The course analyzes and studies the political and social entity created in Egypt and Syria in the late Middle Ages by the Mamluks, who were military personnel of servile origin. The Mamluk State was the largest political, military, and economic power in the Middle East until it was conquered and incorporated by the Ottomans into their state.

The subject of the course is the study of religious folklore and, in particular, of the forms of popular religiousness and the traditional religious behavior of the Greeks. The course also examines forms of custom and ritual over time and in their contemporary manifestations. It places particular stress upon customs associated with the life cycle, the yearly festival calendar and on new forms of custom and ritual that define the life of contemporary man.

Σκοπός του μαθήματος είναι η εισαγωγή στη χρήση των μεθόδων και των εργαλείων που προσφέρει η σύγχρονη τεχνολογία και μπορούν να αξιοποιηθούν στην αρχαιολογική έρευνα. Γενικός στόχος είναι οι φοιτητές να μπορούν να αξιοποιήσουν εργαλεία καταγραφής, ανάλυσης, επεξεργασίας, απεικόνισης και δημοσίευσης ψηφιακών δεδομένων στα πλαίσια μιας διεπιστημονικής προσέγγισης του πεδίου της αρχαιολογίας.
