Κοινωνική προσέγγιση της γλώσσας και δίγλωσση εκπαίδευση

The course deals with the basic concepts of sociolinguistics. It deals with language in relation to the social context in which it is spoken, developed and changed. Interest focuses on the analysis of language as social practice in monolingual and multilingual communities. The course is divided into two parts: the first includes an introduction to basic concepts of sociolinguistics, such as diglossia, individual bilingualism, dominant language, language competence, language maintenance, linguistic sexism, code switching and minority language. The second relates to the management of multilingualism and examines issues relating to bilingual education. Bilingual education means both training that uses and promotes the two languages and training that appeals to children of linguistic minorities. Examining examples of bilingual education, such as, for example, minority languages and minority education, will stress the importance of socio-political actors and educational policies in the management of multilingualism within schools.
Course aims: Familiarization with concepts and issues of sociolinguistics and sociolinguistic research; exercise criticism and self-criticism; production of creative and inductive thinking; respect for diversity and multiculturalism.
