The aim of the course is to introduce students to quantitative and qualitative research methods in the social sciences. The course consists of the following parts:

Α. Introduction to the concept of academic research

Β. Quantitative research methods

Introduction to Quantitative analysis

Data collection methods

Populations and examples: Sampling methods

Data types. Data analysis.

Οι Ελληνοβουλγαρικές σχέσεις μετά την ίδρυση του βουλγαρικού κράτους

The course deals with Greek-Bulgarian relations during the period 1878 - 1912, that is, from the foundation of the autonomous Bulgarian Principality to the Balkan Wars. It examines the attempts on both sides at a rapprochement and the various points of agreement and disagreement, in the light of internal political developments in both states and the diplomatic role played by the European powers.

Οστεολογία-ανατομία του μυοσκελετικού συστήματος

The course deals with the anatomy of the human skeletal system and the basic methods employed for the collection and analysis of skeletal material, mainly of archaeological origin. The course is accompanied by practical sessions in the Laboratory of Anthropology of the Department.

Εισαγωγή στη Μεσαιωνική Ευρωπαϊκή Ιστορία

The course forms a basic introduction to the history of medieval Europe. It examines the formation and evolution of the Medieval world throughout the European continent, from the fall of the Roman empire and the foundation of the Germanic (“barbarian”) kingdoms to the Renaissance and the transition to the Early Modern Era.

Ιστορία των οθωμανικών πόλεων του βαλκανικού χώρου

The course deals with the history of Roumelia (the Balkan Province) from the 14th to the 20th century. Particular attention is given to Thrace, which is the main area studied.  Thrace was the heartland, nearest to Istanbul, the main city of the Balkan peninsula and played an important role in national movements and other developments during the period. The course also focusses on the issue of social mobility and the emergence of the Ottomans as new conquerors. Such social mobility changed the demographic composition of the area.
