Εισαγωγή στην Κοινωνική Ψυχολογία

Social psychology is one of the most fundamental branches of the discipline of psychology. It recognizes the fact that the individual is an active participant in the shaping of our social universe thanks to the mutual influences between individual and social environment and concentrates upon the point where these two entities interconnect. It deals with phenomena and types of behavior that can be examined and explained at four levels of analysis, that is, intra-individual, interpersonal, intergroup and ideological. Given the breadth of the subject and the mass of matters that it deals with, it is necessary to spread the teaching over two semesters, to offer the student the fullest possible understanding of the field.
The course Introduction to Social Psychology forms an introduction to the subject. Students are introduced to the basic defining ideas of socio-psychological thought, become familiar with basic concepts, definitions and study methods employed by social psychology and will study topics concerning the individual and interpersonal relations. They will therefore be in a position to understand the perspective used in giving an account of the social reality of the individual in the context of his actions in society.
Course Aims: The aims of the course comprehend the following: An acquisition of the understanding of the manner, which is different from that of other disciplines, in which social psychology studies mankind. Familiarization with terms, concepts and methods employed in the study of socio-psychological phenomena. An understanding of the type of matters which social psychology studies and of the width of its various applications. Study of basic questions capable of interpretation at an intra-individual and interpersonal level.
