The aim of the course is two-fold: It offers a compact and global overview of fundamental theoretical knowledge centering upon the manifold subject in psychology, the development of the individual. It also highlights the application of this knowledge, to facilitate the understanding and better handling of the individual during the vital periods of childhood and adolescence. The link between theories and the socio- cognitive world of the individual and with his or her experience of participating in the educational process forms the context in which the units of the course deal with and develop the main themes of the course.
Students will then be in a position to understand the vital psycho-emotional and sociocognitive factors that underline the lived experience of school life on the part of school child. Thus the academic arsenal of the student studying the course is enriched with important weapons for the understanding of how to handle the dynamics that play a defining roll in the shaping of the world of classroom and of the learning process itself.
Course Aims: The aims of the course comprehend the following: Understanding of the basic concepts and theories that concern the social, emotional and cognitive development of the individual. Presentation of fundamental theoretical suggestions regarding the psycho-social development of the child and adolescent. Deeper examination of topics involved in various aspects of childhood and adolescence. Examination of the link between these matters and the educational world of the child and adolescent.
