Representations of 1940s in Greek Postwar Literature
The aim of the course is the research of the representations of thedecade 1940-1950, which is shockingfor the Greek reality, in the Greek Postwar Literature. It is sought the comprehension on behalf of the students of the interaction of Literature and History based on the historical events ofthe Greco-Italian War, the Nazi Occupation, the Greek Resistance and the Greek Civil War. Literature functions as a mediation since it, interfering in the social memory, recreates the experience of the History. The literary characters act on the scale of the Microhistory. They suffer from the impact of the great historic reversals in the microcosm of their everyday life, which is intersected by the circle of the Macrohistory. The Greek Postwar Literature which covers the period after the Second World War until the Greek military junta (1967–1974), is divided into the first and the second postwar literary generation. On the level of mental experience, the first postwar generation lives and take part directly in the martial and political advertures, while the second generation experiences the war atmosphere from the point of view of a children or a teenager and suffers from the political consequences of the war. During the course, various literature texts are investigated (partisan songs, poems, short stories and novels), which recreate the atmosphere of 1940s and they look at the trauma, which the war creates in different ways.
