Δημογραφική ανάλυση. Η Δημογραφία των Χωρών της Νοτιοανατολικής Ευρώπης και του Εύξεινου Πόντου

The course aims to deepen the knowledge acquired by the student during the course 'Introduction to Demography' during the first year. If fewer than 20 students take the course, then the course will take the form of completing a project. The information which such projects are to use will be found on the websites of relevant national statistic services, of the UN, of Eurostat and in other sources and academic publications. The course includes a theoretical section, involving teaching sessions by the instructor. These sessions will alternate with presentations of parts of projects undergoing preparation by students. The teaching sessions will include, for example:
Introduction to Demographic Analysis: The Lexis diagramme and measurement of demographic phenomena (3 hours).
Life tables (3 hours). Period and cohort analysis analysis. Life tables ordered by cause of death. Infant mortality. Assigning of projects to students. Each student will study two countries of south-eastern Europe and the Black Sea region and gradually analyse their demographic features (6 hours).
Presentation of the first part of the project, on the subject of history, economy, society and culture of the countries examined in each project. Evaluation of the information for the subsequent demographic analysis. Comparative analysis of mortality and causes of death in the countries in question (6 hours).
Period and cohort analysis and contemporary analysis of fertility. Interpretative models (3 hours)
Presentation of second part of the project: Comparative analysis and factors determining fertility in countries in question (6 hours).
Age Structures: Measurement and extrapolation of demographic phenomena (3 hours)
Presentation of third part of project: Comparative analysis of population structures and sizes and patterns of increase in countries in question (6 hours).
Migration: Factors determining migration and migration policy. Demographic προβολές(3 hours). Presentation of fourth part of project: Comparative analysis of migration movement in countries in question (6 hours).
Completion of project.
