The course recounts, chiefly on the basis of archaeological finds, these two cultures that are related to one another. One succeeded the other and during the transitional period from one to the other covered the same ground. The course then briefly reviews matters pertaining to the origin of the two cultures and offers a comparative description and related interpretation regarding the origin, interchange and succession of archaeological phenomena and related institutions, such as economy, graves and burial, so- called 'palaces', art and technique, trade, writing, religion, communications, foreign relations, Homer and the Trojan and other wars, social and political systems and theories accounting for the decline and fall of these cultures.
