Ευρωπαϊκή Ιστορία, 20ος αιώνας

The various units of the course deal with the period from the end of the First World War to the fall of Communism. The units of the first half of the course examine ideological, political and socio-economic clashes during the interwar period, the rise of democracies and dictatorships and the consequences of the economic crisis, the birth and enormous expansion of totalitarian regimes and the Second World War. The second half of the course deals with new European and world institutions, the Cold War and internal conflict within the two political blocs, the creation and foundation of the welfare state in European states, the movement for European unification, decolonization, social developments and the economic boom of the 60s, the petrol crises, the rise of neo­liberalism and the fall of Communism.
