The various units of the course deal with the period from the end of the First World War to the fall of Communism. The units of the first half of the course examine ideological, political and socio-economic clashes during the interwar period, the rise of democracies and dictatorships and the consequences of the economic crisis, the birth and enormous expansion of totalitarian regimes and the Second World War.

Εκπαιδευτική τεχνολογία

The course is an introduction to the basic concepts of educational technology. Integration models are presented along with software and online tools designed to improve teaching, learning and student evaluation. The course also gives the opportunity to students to discover new ways in which the Internet can improve education outcomes. During the course, students are introduced to synchronous and asynchronous distance learning, supporting technologies and digital platforms. Additionally, examples of the integration of educational technology in the teaching of history are given.

Εισαγωγή στην Οθωμανική Ιστορία

The course focuses both on the changes to be observed in Ottoman administrative structures from the middle period of the Ottoman empire (17th cen.) onwards and on the consequences for economy and society of such changes. The weakening of the Sultan’s institutional power and the emergence of çiftlik land ownership, the implementation of Tanzimat reforms are some of the issues discussed in the course. In addition, the course analyses aspects of social and economic questions of the 19th century and the matter of how far the Ottoman empire enjoyed access to the new industrial era.

Εισαγωγή στην Κοινωνική Ψυχολογία

Social psychology is one of the most fundamental branches of the discipline of psychology. It recognizes the fact that the individual is an active participant in the shaping of our social universe thanks to the mutual influences between individual and social environment and concentrates upon the point where these two entities interconnect. It deals with phenomena and types of behavior that can be examined and explained at four levels of analysis, that is, intra-individual, interpersonal, intergroup and ideological.

Εισαγωγή στην Κοινωνική και Πολιτισμική Ανθρωπολογία

This course introduces students to social and cultural anthropology and therefore focuses on the concepts of society, culture and civilization.  It therefore introduces students to the different anthropological directions involved in the inquiry of these matters. Students will learn about the trajectory of anthropology and the different schools/perspectives that evolved from the early 20th century down to the post-war period and recent trends. Thus we will examine and assess functionalism, structural-functionalism, structuralism and post-structural studies.
