Laboratory for Modern and Contemporary History and Historical Education

The History Laboratory of the Department of History and Ethnology was conceived to meet the educational and research needs of the Department in areas of knowledge relating to modern and contemporary, political, cultural and social history.  Only recently founded, it is still at its initial phase of obtaining electronic equipment and other pieces of material infrastructure.
The Laboratory plans to acquire archival material that will facilitate research both by teaching staff and by students. It is the aim of the Laboratory to become a hub for the presentation of research by all members of the Department whose work relates in some way to Modern History. The Laboratory held the first meeting of postgraduate students of history and Ph.D. candidates in May 2019 and is currently arranging the second meeting for next June. The History Laboratory also intends to publish the first issue of an electronic journal for history students in April 2020. The Laboratory recently applied for funds to construct an electronic Observatory for the celebrations of the two hundredth anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821, which will take place worldwide from 2020 until the end of 2021. In this endeavour, we will be collaborating with, among others, the Centre for Research in Human Sciences and the journal Historein
